At Bertram’s Hotel
Summary:
An old-fashioned London Hotel is not quite as reputable as it makes out… When Miss Marple comes up from the country for a holiday in London, she finds what she’s looking for at Bertram’s Hotel: traditional decor, impeccable service and an unmistakable atmosphere of danger behind the highly polished veneer. Yet, not even Miss Marple can foresee the violent chain of events set in motion when an eccentric guest makes his way to the airport on the wrong day…

Interesting look into the 1960s sensibilities. The way the world is now is different. Didn’t like the ending, but was a fun romp.
Thumbs up. The sense of time and place so compelling, easy to fall into the scene. Love how Christie turns a phrase.
Thumbs up. Liked the priest, my favorite character.
I liked it, liked the description, liked setting, but didn’t like how the Priest was allowed to go around and be absent minded—why didn’t his friends/take care of him?
Thumbs up. Good read, doesn’t matter if it doesn’t make sense.
Thumbs up, read many times. I can just sit and enjoy this.
Unrealistic ending.
Did not like it. Liked description of hotel and era, and people—but then got really confusing. Miss Marple didn’t do much, played such a minor part. She was useless, why even have her?
Mediocre Christie, but still very readable. Love the way how she turns a phrase but the ending not right.
Mixed feelings. Beautifully written but –no one has dies for a long time! Plot full of holes.
Really hard reading about the Priest, how absent minded he was, and no one was watching out for him. Upsetting.
Disappointed. Easy to visualize the hotel, then all of a sudden, it’s a “nut house.”
Didn’t like the whole robbery, doppelgänger stuff.
I love Agatha Christie, this is one of my least favorite. Really slow. Really obvious. Having Miss Marple taking a back seat –didn’t like it. Really bothers me.
Thumbs down. Too many characters to be invested in any of them. Hard to get a sense of plot.
