Baby Ganesh Series
This is a charming series by Vaseem Kahan.
It’s been a long time since I’ve had any energy to post on this site. Diagnosed with cancer October 28th and dealing with chemo, etc. has impacted me with fatigue and pain.
But thankfully, there are mysteries galore to get me through the hours of bed rest. And since I’m feeling relatively okay today, thought I’d take a moment to recommend this series.
Not everyone likes cozies, but if you are so inclined you will probably be charmed. There is a clear love of Mumbai expressed throughout, and one is transported –in a cozy way–to that city. Khan maintains an adept balance between describing the poverty, corruption, wealth, and people of Mumbai, and yet keeping the novel firmly planted in an uplifting crime/mystery.
The series starts by introducing newly retired Inspector Chopra. His first day without employment is immediately taken over by a crime and an elephant. We are transported throughout the region as Chopra investigates the mysterious death his replacement at the police station immediately closes as a suicide. His adventures are harrowing but told in a cozy fashion, his wife is charming, his mother-in-law as annoying as we’d expect, and an elephant. You’ll just have to read it yourself to learn about the elephant.
