Dark Sacred Night

By Michael Connelly

Ballard is just as wily and pushing the envelope as well as any other cop. Nice to see a woman in a strong “rescuing” mode, rather than always being rescued. Several insightful paragraphs from a male author in a woman’s point of view. Interesting police procedural. I liked this lighter portrayal of Harry Bosch.

I liked the crispness of the writing. I don’t really like police procedurals, but this did not get in the way of enjoyment.

I didn’t like this one as much as the first in series. Ballard gets too little sleep and spends too little time with her dog! I like Connelly’s writing–it makes it sound like he knows what he is doing.

I didn’t like it as much as the first in series. I didn’t like the addition of Bosch. Ballard is too rouge-she is a problem. That grated on me. Connelly is a great writer. The resolution was cool, but I didn’t like the coincidence.

I really like the writing and the relationship that grows between Bosch and Ballard. I like that Bosch sees Ballard as different and better than other cops.

So nice to read a male author that gives a female character lots of depth.

I like Michael Connelly and the grittiness and that Ballard is so rogue. Connelly does a seamless job with a police procedural. I really like that the relationship between Ballard and Bosch grows slowly.

I had trouble with the Harry and Ballard relationship and dialogue. I felt like I had come in on the middle of a story and felt a little lost. The ending was obvious.

I am a big fan. The series is gripping and entertaining. I liked the development of Renee’s character. I thought Bosch showing up worked.

I watched the series and as the series progressed I got to like Bosch and that helped me like the book.

I was struck by how well Connelly wrote a female character.

Middling. Not the subgenre I like. Formulaic.

I really appreciated the partnership between Ballard and Bosch. I like the theme of connection.
