What’s the first mystery you remember reading?
The summer of my tenth year I read all the Nancy Drews. I didn’t read another mystery until my thirties, then it was Wilkie Collins. My mystery reading didn’t take off until I began to write mysteries. For years I was an insatiable mystery reader. Now I’m a bit more eclectic. My favorites continue to be the historical mysteries, especially the Amanda Peabody’s.

What is the latest mystery you’ve read?
Does Harlan Coben’s Caught count as a mystery?

What are you reading right now?
Right now I am reading through the Goosebumps books. I’d never read any until a few days ago, they are most addicting. Rather like Doritos.

If you were designing a course on mystery fiction, what would be on your reading list?
Dorothy L Sayers
Barbara Mertz
Arthur Conan Doyle
Abigail Padget
Laurie King
