What is the first mystery you remember reading?
I can’t remember the first mystery I read, but I devoured any Ellery Queen and Perry Mason I could get my hands on in elementary school, so it had to be one of them.

What is the latest mystery you’ve read?
I read Ben Winters sci fi thriller, Underground Airline and Dorothy Sayer’s The Nine Tailors on vacation.

What are you reading now?
I just finished an Advance Reading Copy of Allen Eskens excellent “The Shadow We Hide” for a blurb. It isn’t out yet but you should look for it. It’s really good.

If you were designing a course on mystery fiction, what would be on your reading list?
My favorite mysteries are “Calamity Town” by Ellery Queen, “The Chill” by Ross McDonald, “Shake Hands Forever” by Ruth Rendell, “An Instance of the Fingerpost” by Iain Pears and “The Concrete Blonde” by Michael Connelly.

Additional note from author:
I’m glad you enjoyed Sleight of Hand. It’s star, Dana Cutler, is also featured in my Washington Trilogy (Executive Privilege, Supreme Justice and Capitol Murder) and I just started a new series starring Robin Lockwood, who worked her way through Yale Law School fighting in pay-per-view mixed martial arts matches. The first book is “The Third Victim.”
