The Cuckoo’s Calling
By Robert Galbraith, aka J.K. Rowling
Summary:
When a troubled model falls to her death from a snow-covered Mayfair balcony, it is assumed that she has committed suicide. However, her brother has his doubts, and calls in private investigator Cormoran Strike to look into the case.
Strike is a war veteran – wounded both physically and psychologically – and his life is in disarray. The case gives him a financial lifeline, but it comes at a personal cost: the more he delves into the young model’s complex world, the darker things get – and the closer he gets to terrible danger . . .[summary from https://robert-galbraith.com/book/the-cuckoos-calling/]

Really liked it. Really liked Strike. Flawed in his own way, but not in the trope of PI. Interesting relationship with Robin, nice slow build and not a romance. Pleasantly surprised.
Thumbs up. Long slog but interesting. Figured out who it did half way through. Loved the characters. Cormoran a fantastic character, not a stereotype at all. You are on the journey with him. He is imperfect and real. Liked Robin. You get a feel of London at both street level and celebrity level.
Thumbs down. Got going for me 2/3 of the way through…took a long time to get engaged.
Thumbs up. Just finished the fourth book. Characters wonderful and series is too.
Thumbs in the middle. Kept editing it in my mind. Really liked Strike. Someone you’d want to know. Liked characters but felt book over written.
Couldn’t get into it.
Slow beginning. A lot of defining characters. Really liked it. Thumbs up.
Thumbs up. Really slow read. Audiobook made all the difference. Really pleasurable. Loved description of characters. Characters have lots of dimensions, the positive and negative.
Lots of details…too much…no editor brave enough to edit her book?
Desperate need of an editor.
Thumbs up. Have read all four. Very classic series. Strong on atmosphere.
Read first three books. Thumbs up.
