What She Knew
What She Knew by Gilly Macmillan
My rating: 2 of 5 stars
Quite disappointing. Very slow, no real character development. Stilted relationships between Clemo (primary detective) and Emma, as well as the mother, father, new wife and pretty much everyone else. Red herrings unconvincing. Trite. So many mysteries out there with a missing child, an author really needs something special to stand out. Even the scattering of “blog posts” and FB posts has been done, and better. If you want to read a good one, skip this and read Elly Griffith’s The Crossing Places instead. Now there’s an atmospheric, beautifully written mystery novel. “What She Knew” is pablum in comparison.
