Condescending.

Annoying approach. Sense of place interesting. Structure was annoying. Switching point of view annoying. Some good stuff but all the switching in style pulled me out of the story. Pretentious.

Hated it. Didn’t get very far. Liked the desire to play with style, but didn’t pull it off.

The switching was awful. Where did my story go? Maybe if all that stuff was gone I could concentrate on the story. Not successful.

Got a little ways in only. It was like he published his outline. Hated it.

I liked it! Couldn’t tell if it is a criticism or if he actually likes mysteries. Didn’t mind the switching perspectives. Hate unresolved endings. Liked how the author went into the psychology. Liked the mystery.

Dead on with historically accurate. Good descriptions. Good sense of place. BUT trying too hard to be clever, trying to break out of form. Annoying, irritating, condescending, pretentious.
