The Verifiers
By Jane Pek
Not sure author was successful tying themes together. I liked it, but it left me a little unsettled.
I liked it. I enjoyed the pacing. Interesting modern topic. I listened to it and the narrator did a great job. Cringing internally at some of Claudia’s decisions. But did show how naïve she was about detecting. Also liked family dynamics.
Reads like a classic mystery. Thought she did a reasonable job emulating those classics but with a modern spin. Not a complicated mystery but still a mystery. Ending was weird.
Slow to get going but I finished it. Not sure why it had four parts. Unnecessary. Lots of cringing at how much of an amateur detective she was. Liked family dynamics aspect. Liked humor in it. Liked tech aspect of it.
Fun and funny. Millennial style was refreshing. Not a good sense of place or ambience. Enjoyed the story more than the mystery.
I did not like it. The mystery did not have a satisfying ending. Good idea but not well executed. Didn’t focus on the mystery for a lot of it.
The book was not about the mystery. More about identity. Well written.
Discontented with mystery. Appalled at her naiveté. Annoyed at the ending. But I liked the book! The characters were interesting and engaging. Not sold on sense of place.
I liked the unconventionality of it. Doesn’t follow the usual structure of mysteries. Took a while to get into the cadence of the dialogue but I liked it. Loved the characters. Liked the siblings’ dynamics. Wasn’t bothered by lack of mystery.
Loved it. Fun and very readable. Claudia’s solving of the mystery more interesting than the mystery itself. Really liked Claudia as a character. Social commentary was interesting, especially on family dynamics. Not a strong sense of place. Lots of funny moments.
Really liked the immigrant part. Not that much of a mystery.
Did not like it. So bored, fell asleep reading it. Very chopping writing.
